Our Story

About Occasionette

Occasionette is a curated gift shop, opening the doors at its first shop in 2013 on South Philly's East Passyunk Avenue. The shop has grown substantially over the years and now boasts one of the city's largest selections of independent cards and gifts. In the summer of 2017, the flagship location (twice as big as the first!) opened in the heart of nearby Collingswood, NJ. Joy Shop, Occasionette’s companion shop, opened in the fall of 2020, bringing a much-needed dose of self care goodness to our South Jersey shoppers in the midst of a very difficult year.

In each of our shops, you'll find cards for every occasion, candles, tea towels, jewelry, bar wares, candies, notebooks, journals, photo frames and much more. Occasionette seeks to be an asset to its community in each neighborhood, from serving as a site host for CSAs from local farms and being the perfect place to pick up that little something for the people you love.

Our Mission

At Occasionette, we believe in celebrating every little occasion. Our aim is for everyone to leave our shops happier than they came in. We believe in showing your friends and family that you care. We choose love over hate. Everyone deserves equality and kindness. We believe that independent shops should serve their communities because small business has the power to make positive change. Transparency in business is important. We believe that passionate people can change the world.

Meet Sara

Hi! I’m Sara Villari, the owner + creative director of Occasionette. I’ve worked dozens of odd jobs in my life - from ice cream cake decorator to grocery store cashier to illustrator to architect - but I’m pretty sure they’ve all trained me for my favorite job, shopkeeper. Most days I’m finding the loveliest gifts for the shops and dreaming up big, new ways Occasionette can grow, but there’s always a little bit of fancy janitor work in there, too. Each day is a wild ride and sometimes I still can’t believe that tiny little shop on East Passyunk Avenue grew into all of this - but it did! And we’re here. I share my life with my husband and our daughter in the charming town that is Collingswood, New Jersey.
